Over the month of January, the sixth-grade students worked hard to prepare artifacts to feature in museum “rooms” that were dedicated to five topics of Ancient Egypt. These artifacts (projects) were chosen, designed, and created by the students. Each project was modeled after a real primary source artifact, like you might see at the Rosicrucian Museum in San Jose. This project was 100% student-centered; there was an opportunity for student choice and direction with little teacher intervention. Throughout the course of this project, students were challenged in their time management, personal participation, problem solving, and adaptability while learning how to effectively collaborate with their museum “roommates.” They prepared a tour of the museum for their teachers, peers, parents, and family to share what they learned about Ancient Egypt’s civilization and history. We had over 170 outside visitors come to see what these students did!
